These stains are designed to bring out the natural beauty of your wood fence by highlighting its gorgeous texture with richness and depth.
A sealed fence will stay healthy for far longer, as it will be protected from moisture, UV rays, and the wear and tear that Mother Nature tends to inflict on wood fences.
Your fence is one of the first things a potential buyer will see. Make sure you give a good first impression with a well-kept fence!
Unlike the man-made fence materials we offer, wood is susceptible to wear and tear of all kinds—like cracking, warping, splitting, developing mold or rot, and whatever a strong wind will blow into it. Improperly preserved wood won’t last long in Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach, but properly stained and sealed wood can protect your fence for up to four years before you’ll need to have it reapplied. Why wait any longer to call your local fence installation company, Top Rail Fence, to get your fence beautifully stained.
If you’re replacing your old fence with a new one, or if you’re having a wood fence installed for the first time, make sure you have the Top Rail Fence team apply stain and sealant. Here’s why:
With top-quality products and exceptional craftsmanship, the Top Rail Fence team will help you preserve your fence’s color long after your neighbors’ wood fences have begun to fade or rot.
The stains we use are engineered to penetrate the wood, giving it added protection against mildew, water, and sun damage from constant exposure to the elements.
If your stained and sealed fence ever gets dirty, all you have to do to clean it up is wipe it with a damp cloth or a mild soap-and-water solution. No elbow grease is required!
Worried about your wood fence looking like everyone else’s? We offer many different stain styles and colors to help you stand out from the crowd and complement your property.
Reach out to Top Rail Fence today to discuss your fence staining needs with our team and schedule an appointment.
At your consultation, we’ll help you find the perfect stain color for your fence and walk you through the next steps.
We will prepare your fence for staining by gently pressure washing it and using compounds designed to safely clean wood.
Our technicians will stain every picket and post of your fence with the utmost precision and care for a uniform finish and a look you’ll be proud of.

Fence Staining FAQs
View MoreStaining adds color to the wood while highlighting its natural grain. Staining also protects against UV rays. Sealing protects the wood from moisture and weathering by creating a waterproof barrier. Oftentimes a stain solution has a sealant formula as well. We ensure that every fence is both stained and sealed as part of our service.
The fence staining cost varies based on fence size, material, and the type of stain. We provide free estimates before starting.
After installation, a wood fence typically needs anywhere from 4-6 months of curing time before being stained. This allows the wood to dry out from its original pressure treatment to absorb the stain effectively. The time it takes for the wood to dry out depends on the material. For example, Cedar fences can be stained sooner than pressure-treated fences. A great way to tell if your fence is ready for stain is to sprinkle water on the wood; if it beads up, it needs more time to dry out. If the water is readily absorbed, the fence is ready for stain.
Most fence stains have a lifespan of approximately 4 years. However, the longevity of your stain depends on the severity of weather in your area. Regions with high winds, lots of rain, or brutal sun may require re-staining sooner
Absolutely. Staining creates a barrier against UV rays, rain, and mold, helping your fence stay strong and beautiful for years.
